If
you're new to the world of hand-drumming, these djembe classes are an excellent
place to begin. Whether you're a completely raw beginner
or have some exposure to the drum, this class is for
you.
The West African djembe drum has become the most popular
hand-drum worldwide, and is very accessible to learn
to play. You find them in schools, in friend's houses,
at drum circles, and on stage.
Learn the language of the drum, pulse
exercises, proper playing technique, and rhythm patterns. Participation in group polyrhythm will be the focus, and polymeter will be explained and explored.
We utilize visual aids, as well as repetitive vocalizations and kinesthetic learning, to help
you find your place in the beat. Hand-drumming is both relaxing and energizing!
Usually offered as a series of 6 or 8, 90 minute, weekly
classes. Pre-teens through adults welcome. Drums are available for
in-class rental and purchase.
This class is almost always offered in our store in Nokomis, Sarasota County, Florida, at the start of each season. Sometimes we offer it in other areas of Sarasota County and beyond. We welcome your assistance in bringing it to your neck of the woods!
